Patch Lab is a synthesizer you build yourself. Each module is a real piece of
the sound; you connect them with cables, and the sound follows your wiring. It starts
pre-wired so it already makes sound — press a key and change things.
Jacks & cables
Each module has round jacks. An out jack sends a signal; an in jack
receives one. The colour tells you what kind of signal it is:
- Audio — the sound itself (oscillator → filter → amp → output).
- Control — a signal that changes another knob, like the LFO wobbling the filter.
- Gate — the "key is pressed" message that starts the envelope.
- Split — the MULT's jacks: any signal, copied out three ways.
Wiring things up
- Drag from one jack to another to make a cable — or tap one jack, then tap another.
- Click a cable to remove it.
- A cable glows when a signal is flowing through it — play a note and watch the sound travel from module to module.
- One out can feed several ins (drag from it again). The MULT module makes
that tidy: one signal in, three copies out — send the LFO to the filter and the pitch at once.
Rearranging the rack
- Drag a module by its name bar to move it — within a row or to the other row.
- ＋ Module adds another of any type (a second LFO, a third oscillator…); it appears in the bottom row, ready to drag where you like.
- ＋ Add row at the bottom of the rack gives you another shelf to spread modules across.
- The little × on a module removes it. KEYS and OUTPUT stay put.
- ✂ Clear wires removes every cable at once (the modules stay).
The modules
- KEYS — the keyboard; sends Pitch + Gate.
- OSC — makes the raw tone (pick the wave, tune it). Stack two for a thicker sound.
- SUB — an extra oscillator one octave below the note, for weight and bass.
- MIXER — blend two signals (A + B) into one — e.g. both oscillators.
- NOISE — hissy white noise, great for wind or drums.
- MULT — splitter: one in → three out.
- S&H — random stepped control; wire its CV into a Cutoff or Pitch jack for blips and burbles.
- CTRL — manual controls that stay on: the switch holds its ON output high (wire it to an Amp Gain to drone, or an Envelope Gate to hold a note), and A/B are steady control voltages.
- FILTER — makes the sound darker or brighter (Cutoff), with resonance.
- LFO — a slow wave for wobble; wire its CV into a Cutoff or Pitch jack.
- ENVELOPE — shapes how a note rises and fades (Attack/Decay/Sustain/Release).
- AMP — the volume, opened by the envelope.
- OUTPUT — your speakers, with a live scope.
Playing & saving
- Play with the on-screen keys, your computer keys A S D F G H J K, or a MIDI keyboard.
- 💾 Save / 📂 Load keep a patch as a file; your latest patch (with your modules) is also remembered automatically.
- ↺ Reset patch puts everything back to the starting sound.
